2009 News roundup from K'arale

Dear Friends,

As 2009 draws to a close and we take stock of what matters most in our lives, we just want to say ‘Thank you’ for joining us in this mission to take quality healthcare to the hard-to-reach communities and thus giving poorer communities an opportunity to partake of quality healthcare.

K’arale began operation under its registered name in March 2009. Do note that prior to this in the past three years, various projects[mainly research] focused on Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS had been carried out by us funded by International donors like Bill and Melinda gates Foundation, PEPFAR and APIN.

The highlights of Year 2009 include:

<!--[if !supportLists]-->1 <!--[endif]-->Establishment of K’arale office at 11 Oba Akinjobi road, Ikeja GRA, Lagos

<!--[if !supportLists]-->2 <!--[endif]--> We received approval from Education District IX to carry out HIV prevention peer training programs with Senior Secondary Students of Secondary schools in Mushin, Oshodi, Isolo and Ikeja. We have ongoing projects at State Senior High School, Ikeja and Euba Community High School, Mushin involving the training of 220 SS students. Pictures here

<!--[if !supportLists]-->3 <!--[endif]-->Various capacity-building training for key staff of K’arale to ensure that projects are carried out effectively. E.g. Training by APIN, DARC etc.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->4 <!--[endif]-->We also received approval from community stakeholders and the Iru/VI LCDA Chairman to establish our first PortaKlinic in Kuramo. Our goal to launch the PortaKlinic by November 2009 was not realized due to lack of sponsorship, but we hope that come March 2010 it will be a reality.
